Located inside the S.M.A.R.T. Laboratory Clean Room, the microscope shown is used for "wide field" viewing of detectors in progress. Many radiation detectors fabricated at the S.M.A.R.T. Laboratory are considerably larger than conventional VLSI devices, hence the need for the larger field of view.
